The Apple iPhone provides the perfect mobile computing platform in which to use a "Soft Infokey Controller. Bluetooth wireless has become a secure industry standard and both the Segway PT and iPhone make full use of its capabilities. A soft key would be of great value to the customer in the following ways.
| 1. | A Soft Infokey Controller would reduce by one the digital devices that the rider would have to have on their person. |
| 2. | The high resolution color screen would provide an accurate interface for the user to use the Infokey Controller that is based on the existing hardware. |
| 3. | The multi-touch display of the iPhone can provide correct input when two buttons being depressed are required to invoke the Infokey Controller's date & time setting, resetting the Infokey Controller trip computer, and locking the Beginner speed setting. |
| 4. | Segway PT customers can have one digital device to control more than one Segway PT and this would assist Segway PT tour providers by eliminating the need for keeping track of multiple Infokey Controllers. |
| 5. | Segway PT customers can have an additional level of security guarding against theft. A future rev of the controller boards could include a 4G interface for a GPS that would locate the PT when power is available either through the charge port or when there is sufficienct battery power. |
| 6. | A soft Infokey Controller would reduce the MSRP by $250.00 by eliminating the need for a second Infokey Controller being shipped to the customer. |
| 7. | There are safety benefits to having a soft Infokey Controller. Chief among them would be hands free voice communication available to the rider by use of the iPhone's speaker. An appropriate dock can be manufactured to hold the iPhone where the Infokey Controller is currently docked. |
| 8. | Co-marketing efforts with Apple, Inc. will assist in the branding efforts of Segway, Inc. There has become a "halo" effect to the iPod product line evidenced by the increase of the Macintosh market share. The Macintosh now enjoys a more than twofold increase in market share in the last 18 months. I believe that the Segway PT would benefit from this "halo" and it is well known that the CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs is a proponent of the Segway PT. |
